Global Church Stories: A Field Report

Calvary Curitiba — Brazil

What started as a step of faith has now become a living, growing community.

Over the past year, God has been at work in Curitiba, Brazil—guiding a team through prayer, transition, and the planting of a new Calvary Chapel in the heart of the city.

In December, a meaningful transition took place. Leadership of an existing church was entrusted to a new pastor, while a core team of about 25 people was prayed over and sent out to begin a new work: Calvary Curitiba.

Since then, that small team has steadily grown.

Gatherings began in homes, with worship nights and interest meetings across the city. Then in January 2026, the team started meeting quietly in a small hotel conference room downtown—the very neighborhood where they sensed God calling them to plant.

Week after week, new people began to come.

Today, around 45–50 adults and 15–20 children are gathering consistently.

It may seem small by some standards, but for a brand-new church meeting in a hotel room before launch, it has been a clear work of God—marked by joy, unity, and expectancy.

A Milestone Moment

This past Sunday marked a significant step forward: the official launch of Calvary Curitiba.

The team gathered once again in the hotel, but this time to welcome a full room for their very first public Sunday.

The morning began with breakfast and fellowship, followed by a powerful time of worship. The message centered on Jesus’ heart “for the one” from Matthew 18:11–14—a fitting foundation for a church being built on reaching people personally and intentionally.

It was a joyful and meaningful day, shared with members of the Calvary family, local leaders, and many new faces from the community.

There was a clear sense that God is building something special in Curitiba.

The Heart of the Church

Calvary Curitiba is a church centered on Jesus, with a vision to be a welcoming and missional community.

Their heart is simple:
To help people find identity, belonging, and purpose in Christ—and to be part of what God is doing both in their city and beyond.

Led by the Monteiro family, this work reflects a deep commitment to local, indigenous leadership—pastors who know the culture, language, and heartbeat of their city.
